THE WORLD—As difficult as it might be to believe, amid politicians playing brinkmanship with Americans' lives and livelihoods, with presidential candidates vying to see who can make the most outrageous claims about the economy and the human condition and get away with it, and with the president about to sign into law a bill that portends the end of citizens' Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Amendment rights, there are still some people out there who believe in world peace... and that one way to acheive it is through sexual pleasure.
Yes, believe it or not, December 21 is Global Orgasm for Peace Day—and we can't help but suspect that some AVN readers have fallen behind in their orgasm duties!
"Our species is now at the tipping point where human 'progress' is finally endangering our survival," reads the "Science" portion of the Global Orgasm for Peace Day . "It is time for change. It is time for true Partnership between men and women, combining the best of both sexes to heal what the worst has brought about. So we ask you all to take a biological step toward Peace and Partnership! We want you all to combine the power of orgasm with the power of intention for peace."
The site also has suggested "Rituals for Dedicating Orgasmic Energy":
"Create Sacred Space
"See the Divine in the eyes of your partner (or yourself if practicing solo).
"Bless the liquid in the 'vibration of Love and Peace' before you drink—water, wine or juice.
"Bless the oil in the 'vibration of Love and Peace' before you anoint your or your partner's most Sacred places.
"Bless the body with gentle Loving touch.
"Create Rituals of Baptism and cleansing, washing away lower vibrations.
"Use Mudras to concentrate the energies, connecting the thumb with different fingers, accesses chakra energies.
"Speak expressions of Gratitude.
"Visualize the orgasms shooting out light, while you consciously focus thoughts of peace. If you are practicing with a partner, hold sacred space and do this for the other."
Okay; so maybe it sounds like the authors of the site have been caught in some kind of time warp since the late '60s—but why not get yourself and/or a partner off sometime before you fall out tonight? It's healthy, it's fun... and according to the Global Orgasm website, there might actually be some science behind it.
According to a link on the site to Princeton University's Global Consciousness Project, synchronized behavior (like a whole bunch of people orgasming at the same time) might have the effect of subtly changing the world around us.
"When human consciousness becomes coherent and synchronized, the behavior of random systems may change," Global Consciousness Project's claims. "Quantum event based random number generators (RNGs) produce completely unpredictable sequences of zeroes and ones. But when a great event synchronizes the feelings of millions of people, our network of RNGs becomes subtly structured. The probability is less than one in a billion that the effect is due to chance. The evidence suggests an emerging noosphere, or the unifying field of consciousness described by sages in all cultures."
"[T]hink about this," the Orgasm Day folks ask. "Evolutionary psychologists and biologists theorize that the purpose behind most male behavior is to attract females. It is primordial and unconscious. Women have forgotten how powerful their mate choices can be. We are asking women to help redefine 'progress' by consciously altering their mating preferences to discourage and de-legitimize overly aggressive behavior and militaristic posturing. It may be the only incentive powerful enough for men to step up the evolutionary ladder to enlightened masculinity. And we ask those women already in relationships to remember their ability to guide men towards their true power.
"Our species is now at the tipping point where human 'progress' is finally endangering our survival," the site continues. "It is time for change. It is time for true Partnership between men and women, combining the best of both sexes to heal what the worst has brought about. So we ask you all to take a biological step toward Peace and Partnership!"
So whether you want to affect the cosmos's randomness, or take the next step in human evolution, or just want to "rub one out," why not, as the Global Orgasm for Peace Day website asks, "Dedicate an orgasm to Peace"? After all, today could be the first day of the rest of your orgasmic life.
